Slovenian students improve their skills in gastronomy and tourism

From 24 March to 22 April, seven students from Slovenia’s College of Gastronomy and Tourism (Grega) got the opportunity to immerse themselves in Italian culture for a month. The programme enabled them to gain practical experience as waiters, receptionists and in the culinary arts.

Students specialising as waiters interacted with customers, took orders and ensured a pleasant dining experience. They also learned how to serve food and drinks, set up dining rooms and maintain cleanliness and organisation, improving their customer service skills and their understanding of how a restaurant works.

Those focusing on reception duties handled guest arrivals and departures, reservations and administrative tasks, gaining valuable experience in hotel management and reception operations.

The cooking students prepared the ingredients, cooked the meals and presented the dishes, while learning about kitchen management, hygiene standards and menu planning. This experience enabled them to refine their culinary techniques and become familiar with the workings of a professional kitchen.

The mobility programme enabled these seven students to improve their technical abilities and get real-world experience. This initiative underlines the importance of practical training and collaboration between educational establishments and industry partners in preparing students for successful careers in gastronomy and tourism.
